2022 Toyota RAV4 is celebrating 25 years since its North American debut in 1996.
Overview
The redesigned design, new features, and a new SE Hybrid standard that aimed for the sweet spot between features, style, and value are part of the 2022 model year upgrades.
The new SE Hybrid grade sits immediately below the XSE Hybrid, keeping the black wheels and aggressive bumper trim but offering a more conservative equipment set and a lower price.
The new trim features a 7-inch touchscreen, monotone exterior paint, and fabric seats.
A weather package adds heated seats and a steering wheel, while a convenience package adds a 9-inch touchscreen, as well as a sunroof and power liftgate to the mix.
Here are the three major highlights of the 2022 Toyota RAV4:
- First, on the sportier side of the RAV4 Hybrid lineup, a new SE Hybrid model sits below the XSE.
- All trims except the base LE get sleek new headlights, and higher grades get LED fog lamps.
- The 2022 RAV4 will go on sale next month, and Toyota will release pricing information closer to the launch date.
Exterior
Aside from the Big Three’s full-size pickup trucks, the Toyota RAV4 is the best-selling vehicle in America, with 313,447 units sold through the third quarter of 2021. Toyota has already revealed many new features for the 2022 RAV4, including new colors, updated headlights, and a new SE Hybrid model. In addition, the company placed sharper headlights and a new SE Hybrid trim for the Toyota RAV4 in 2022.
Interior
The new SE Hybrid joins the RAV4 Hybrid’s sportier side, sitting below the XSE and more athletic than the XLE and Limited grades. The SE Hybrid is equipped with a 7.0-inch touchscreen, a six-speaker audio system, and cloth seats on the inside. In addition, the Weather package, which includes a heated leather steering wheel, heated front seats, and rain-sensing wipers with a de-icer function, and the Convenience package, which consists of a sunroof, a motorized tailgate, and a 9.0-inch touchscreen, are also available.
Available Variants
- The SE Hybrid grade also adds Cavalry Blue to the RAV4 lineup, also available on the TRD & XSE Off-Road.
- The Limited Hybrid, XLE Premium Hybrid, and XSE Hybrid all get new wheels, while the XLE, LE Hybrid, and XLE Hybrid get new colors.
- All trims except the base LE contact newer-looking headlights, and the XLE Premium, Limited, Adventure, and TRD Off-Road have LED fog lamps.
- The XSE Hybrid also gets the vertical LED running lights first seen on the XSE Prime in 2021.
- On the inside, minor changes include LED interior lighting and lighted switches on all trims save the LE.
2022 Toyota RAV4- Price & PowerTrains
The price of the 2022 Toyota RAV4 has yet to be revealed, but we estimate it to be slightly higher than the 2021 model. The SE Hybrid is expected to start at about $30,000. The 203-hp 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine will be retained, together with two electric motors for 219 horsepower in hybrid variants and three electric motors in the plug-in Prime, for a total of 302 hp. When the 2022 RAV4 goes on sale in mid-December, Toyota promises more information will be released.
The changes are minor, but Toyota has a reputation for sticking to tried-and-true formulas. “Now in its fifth generation,” Toyota claimed in a release Friday, “the Toyota RAV4 remains the leader in its size class, and it has also been America’s best-selling non pickup passenger car for the past four years.”
